I sometimes engage in journaling with the theme, “Is there still hope for me?” I don’t clearly remember exactly when I started using this theme, but it’s likely during moments when I felt down or overcome by a sense of hopelessness. Interestingly, whenever I choose this theme, I find myself wanting to write about positive and hopeful things. Once I start, the ideas flow, and before I know it, I feel uplifted.
This phenomenon happens frequently. I suspect it’s because I incorporate critical thinking into my journaling practice. When faced with the question, “Is there still hope for me?” my mindset shifts almost defiantly to, “Of course there is!” This switch triggers me to dig deep and find reasons that support that answer. I start listing things I already possess, gifts I’ve been given, and moments of gratitude. The simple act of journaling on this theme prompts me to shift my perspective and turn any thought into hope.
In moments when I feel most cornered or desperate, this practice acts like an energy boost. It’s as if my mind rallies to counteract the despair, drawing on every resource I have to find hope. This has become a valuable tool in maintaining my mental health.
Looking back at my past entries, I notice recurring themes: the question, “Is there still hope for me?” and my resounding answer: “YES!!” I then write about why there is hope—highlighting recent moments that made me happy, achievements I’m proud of, things that brought me joy or gratitude, and goals I still want to pursue. For me, the process of writing brings a surge of renewed energy and optimism. Regularly journaling on this theme has become a time of healing and reflection, and I truly believe it’s worth incorporating into your routine.
I highly recommend it.
Engaging in this practice can transform moments of doubt into a powerful reminder of resilience and potential. Try it for yourself and see how writing with the question, “Is there still hope for me?” can lead you to rediscover the strength and hope that already exist within you.
